It’s been two-and-a-half years since we completed the total transformation of our master bath, and we’re still saying to each other, remember when there was duct tape on the floorIt’s hard to believe how far we’ve come when we stop to think about it (again, I say, duct tape!), but we think it’s so important to celebrate these victories. After all, we’ve worked countless nights and weekends to get here! (Although, we may have blacked out the memory of laying all the tile.) Over the course of that renovation, we reconfigured the plumbing, pushed back a wall and maximized storage with every spare inch we had. To that point, it was one of the largest start-to-finish room overhauls we had completed, and it remains one of our favorites to this day. We wouldn’t change a thing.

Speaking of, we truly hadn’t changed a thing. All the permanent fixtures remain the same, sure, but we had yet to treat ourselves to fresh bath towels, a new candle or a plush bathmat. And although we consider ourselves pretty tidy, the vanity drawers were starting to become cluttered, and our tall, skinny storage was no longer being used to its fullest potential.

We recently teamed up with The Company Store to change that! Have you shopped with The Company Store? They’re one of our go-to shops for bedding and bath basics, but they also have a great selection of home decor (including that moss green velvet pillow in Tree House’s guest room that we heart so much!). Years of use and countless washings had our previous white towels feeling threadbare and looking dull, and we were overdue to upgrade them. Psst: We’re sharing the love at the bottom of this post!

No one should be surprised that we chose white again, but there’s something about white towels that feels so fresh, clean and luxurious, don’t you think? This time around, we picked two patterns – one for us, one for Lucy. For us, we landed on these quick dry towels, and for Lucy, we opted for these dots (so cute!). The quick dry towels are a light(er)weight material, which surprised us initially, but having used them for the last month, we’ve grown to love them! (They are the best for wrapping up wet hair.) Our sweet Lucy recently outgrew her newborn hooded towels, and we’ve since switched over to the dots exclusively. We’re biased, of course, but there is nothing more adorable than a giggly Luce swaddled up in her towel!

While we were upgrading, we took it as an opportunity to re-organize the bath and reassess the systems we had in place. Up until now, we had been stashing our extra towels in our laundry cabinets (around the corner and through our bedroom), but that was less than ideal, and we knew there had to be a way to fit them into our long and skinny storage bath closet:

We started by emptying every last thing out of the closet, and we tossed anything that was expired. We corralled medicine, first aid items, extra soap and cleaning supplies, and we divided them up between clear storage bins (eliminating any guesswork when you need to grab something quickly). If we had duplicates of anything – say, shampoo or body wash – we set those to the side to bring to Tree House. We don’t tend to overbuy products, but we were amazed at how much had gathered towards the back of that cabinet! Once everything was cleared out, we found ourselves with two empty shelves. Two. Two! The shelves in our cabinet are adjustable, so we played around with the heights until we were able to fit all the bins plus our spare rolled up towels. Much better!

But why stop there? (Guys, organizing is truly, honestly my very favorite thing.) We also emptied out our vanity drawers and by the time we were done sorting, we gained an empty drawer!

We then promptly filled it up with a stack of these bamboo washcloths and thick dot hand towels:

The Company Store has an assortment of extra large bath rugs, and we chose this pretty Rose Quartz rug, straying from our usual all-white. At 40″ wide, it’s substantial enough to fill the space underneath our double vanity, and Libby has been claiming it as her own ever since!

And the perfect cap to our master bath refresh? A fall scented candle.

  1. Quick-dry towels! How did you know the hand towel in my powder room is perpetually damp?? Brilliant.

  2. Your bathroom looks great!
Top of my list… a down comforter. It is getting cold!

  3. I recently washed my white towels with something red and now they are pink… I would definitely get some new towels!

  4. It’s definitely time for us to get new towels but I’m also really liking their linen duvet covers….

  5. Hmm if you like organizing I’d be happy to have you over to my house…lol.

Bathroom looks great, I like the polka dot towel best out of the new additions. The mirror with the duck feet and the tooth canister are amazing, though- as are those adorable puppydog eyes. You make having a kid + a cat + 2 doggos look not-crowded.

  6. love the artwork in your bathroom, especially the picture with the dog in it!

  7. We’re thiiiiiiis close to finishing our guest bedroom, and those linen duvet covers are definitely talking to me.

  8. I’m ogling organic sheets and a new coverlet – a bedroom refresh is long overdue!

  9. I went to their website to look at the organic sheets, but then I saw LLAMA PAJAMAS so…

    1. We got that on Etsy from a seller that’s no longer active. We needed something that was extra long, and there are a lot of shops on Etsy that can do that. :)

  10. Yes! I was just looking at my towels and told my hubby that that’s what I wanted for christamas – fresh new towel #youknowyoureoldwhen I’m interested in trying the quick dry towels you mentioned!

  11. New towels are always such a nice “splurge.” And even better is that I donate my old towels to the local animal shelters – they’re always asking for linens and towels! It’s a win-win. =)

  12. I LOVE The Company Store! We get all our bedding from there- and it’s top notch!

  13. I am so excited at the thought of plush towels for my little boys’ bathroom, which also happens to be the guest bathroom when people come over. The look of plush towels really elevates the experience… and hopefully would mean that they would pick them up off of the floor!

  14. I could really use a rug at the back doors instead of the bath towel I’m currently using lol.

  15. It’s amazing how regularly used linens get so abused over time. It’s not until you replace them that you realize how bad they had gotten! Our family is definitely in need of upgraded sheets and towels. The Company Store towels you mention look like they would totally fit the bill!

  16. We haven’t bought new towels since we got married 10 years ago, so towels definitely top my list!

  17. Your moss green pillows have my heart. Also, as an aside, after you first posted about the bathroom, I had to have a Ryan Duggan from the “Shitting Dog” series. It has moved around the house and (finally) found the perfect spot. . .in our bathroom, of course.

      1. It was the very last “Shriners on Parade.” I grew up in a small northern IL town where the taverns are just as ubiquitous as traffic lights, and the image is straight from my 80’s childhood memories. The subtlety of the dog makes the nostalgia even better :)

  18. The Company Store is awesome- even after many years our down comforter from them is in great shape!

  19. Definitely towels! We haven’t bought new ones in over four years and we only have 4 total!!! It’s time.

  20. The comforters and the towels. So hard to choose though! All of their stuff is nice! Thank you!

  21. I’m now realizing that my white towels aren’t so “white” anymore either!

  22. If I didn’t want new towels before, I definitely want them now! Those quick-dry towels sound amazing.

  23. Every time I see your bathroom, I want to tackle my own master bath! Fresh white towels would look amazing on the dark green walls I am planning!

Where do you stash Lucy bath items? Surely there are toys and baby soaps!

  24. Ok, you’re inspiring me to get moving on my bathroom refresh! Those towels look so fluffy and nice! One thing caught my eye, though, as I work in the pharmacy industry in Canada: I would suggest that you store your medications outside of the bathroom. The heat and humidity in a bathroom is detrimental to your meds – even the liquids.

  25. I loooveee your home with all it’s sense and sensibility.beautiful bathroom too

  26. This makes me excited to tackle our bathroom overhaul this winter (and we may try to steal your tiny but tall cabinet storage idea if we can make it fit)! We’ve been letting things go in the organizational department knowing a full overhaul is coming and I can’t wait to tidy up! And those towels! Our current towels are SEVEN years old and in desperate need of replacement and those Company Store beauties would versatility fit the bill!

  27. I just always in awe with the simplicity that is in no way boring throughout your home, and this bathroom is no exception. Love that Lucy has her own towel pattern, so cute!

  28. We also only use white towels! And ours are starting to look grimey…buying fresh new white ones in advance of our next visitors is on my list. Excited to check out what The Company Store has to offer!

  29. Now you have me itching to organize my bathroom closet. I can only imagine all the forgotten bottles of hotel shampoo and expired products floating around!

  30. I could really use a throw blanket! I love the Cloud throw blankets and the linen ones!

  31. I have found their items to be wonderful.
Love the slippers and the wool wraps. Love the comforters. I am having a hard time just stating one item. I like quite a few items.

  32. Thanks for the chance to win! Love everything about this bathroom, esp Lucy!

  33. Love the rug. Need to go check out The Company Store for a new winter weather rug!

  34. Oh man, I love the look of those cotton twill bath rugs. We could certainly use some updates as I’m pretty sure one of the ones in heavy rotation in our house is from my college days.

  35. I love the company store! We purchased our master bedding quilt from there. I’m in need of new towels and have my eye on a heavenly down mattress topper!

  36. Thanks for hosting this giveaway and sharing The Company Store, I had never heard of them before! And I’m OBSESSED with the flannel holiday dog sheets! So precious! I’m also #teamwhitetowels like you guys!

  37. We need new bedding for our master- they have great options. I hear their duvets are the best.

  38. I’m embarrassed to admit how old our towels are (so I won’t). The dot ones and quick dry towels are perfect and would be at the top of my list!

  39. The “warm gifts” section on the Company Store website is actually making me look forward to winter!

  40. Love and am in need of new towels for our bathroom – want to bring some navy in, to go with existing white. :)

  41. I really want a LaCrosse® Down and LoftAIRE Blanket – they look so cozy!

  42. If I had won the lottery, I’m pretty sure the Company Store would have gotten most of it.

  43. Oh new towels! So exciting! I am the worst at organizing. Ugh. I have good intentions but I never know what to keep or how to store it. I’ll trade you babysitting for organizing. ;) Win win for me!

  44. We desperately need a new bath mat and the Chunky Loop Bath Rug looks perfect!

  45. I would definitely update our guest bathroom with a new shower curtain and mats (Basket Weave Shower Curtain for sure)!

  46. I love the Company Store! We purged rather extensively prior to selling our house and traveling in an RV for a year – I need everything.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  47. I love the Pima Sleepwear! I’d be tempted to get the Women’s V-Neck Short Sleeve Top, Tapered Pants, and Lounge Sweater.

  48. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect mid-weight quilt for our master bedroom for a while. I’m sure the Company Store has a contender for me!

  49. I’ve ordered down comforters, duvet covers & towels from The Company Store for years and they hold up Great!

  50. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to win. I definitely love everything about the company store, especially the shower curtains!

  51. We totally need towels and the quick dry ones sound superb! Our towels are the ones we got for our wedding registry – 15 years ago!

  52. Gotta love THE COMPANY STORE staple, the down comfoters! We are looking to renovate a small guest bathroom. Thank you for all of the swell towel storage ideas!

  53. Love white towels too, they look so fresh! Interested in trying the quick dry kind, hadn’t heard of this before!

  54. oh gosh! i love the company store, and i’d love to snag a new doormat for the holidays. ours got lost in our move :(

  55. Definitely the towels and bathroom rugs! And maybe some throw pillows too! ;) I love getting new stuff like this, I just never do lol.

  56. Hard to choose but after wishing our towels dried better overnight, I think I’d have to go with the Quick-Dry towels that you ended up with!

  57. I already love fresh white towels but those dot pattern towels are amazing!!

  58. Ah, would love some much needed new towels … my husband would be over the moon with quick-dry ones!

  59. Thanks for sharing! I was looking for nice bath towels, perfect timing!

  60. I love the Company Store’s PJ’s! I like the Solid Poplin Pajama Set and the pima tapered pants.

    1. We use white vinegar in our load of whites, and if we need the strong stuff, a bit of bleach will get whites looking BRAND new for years! We actually think white is the easiest to keep looking fresh longer, since they won’t fade, like color would!

  61. I am redecorating my son’s old room into a guest room–love that green velvet pillow and am looking for a comforter…white towels only in my bathroom also.

  62. I love their comforters. My favorite is the LaCrosse Down & LoftAIRE Down Alternative Comforter.

  63. I also love the color white, so I would probably buy white towels. Could use some new ones.

  64. We are in desperate need of new bathmats, and I love the organic bath rugs. I would also get some Faballs and floppy dog toys for my pooches.

  65. I would love some of the Llama pjs. They look so comfortable and soft.

  66. We’re juuuuust about to move and I would love to refresh some new items for our new place!

  67. I would LOVE all white towels…but I’m scared. How do you keep them looking so bright and fresh?

    1. We use white vinegar in our load of whites, and if we need the strong stuff, a bit of bleach will get whites looking BRAND new for years! We actually think white is the easiest to keep looking fresh longer, since they won’t fade, like color would!

  68. IKEA used to carry the quick dry towels but now don’t. Hurray the company store does!

  69. I love the rose quartz bath mat… such a unique color. I roll my bath towels for easy storage as well. Thank you for the give-away; I need a duvet cover!

  70. Just wrapping up my own bathroom reno and would love to supply it with new goodies from the Company store. Thanks for the chance.

  71. I’m as in love with the moss green velvet pillow as you are – I’d snag a pair for my bedroom!

  72. Gosh how do you choose?! Those polka dot towels give me all the heart eyes, what a great idea for Little’s! Their Pom Pom pillows are pretty great too!

  73. Love your towel choices! My fiancé has been wanting quick dry towels, so we’ll have to look into these! And the dots are so cute!

  74. It feels so satisfying to re-organize and refresh! Your space looks great!

  75. I’m loving those cute dot towels. White bath towels are the absolute best.

  76. We need new bedding. With the comforter it’s too hot, without it’s too cold. This would be so helpful!

  77. I love to organize too! I don’t think there is anything at the Container Store that I do not like or couldn’t use!

  78. We are nearing the time for new towels and I think the Legends® Regal Egyptian Cotton Towels would be perfect. I love the reorganization you did. Your skinny cabinet has always been a favorite of mine.

  79. oh my, loving those dot towels!! my linen closet is in dire need of some updating starting with some of those towels! thank you!

  80. I figure my towels are close to 20 years old (where does the time go?) and are starting to get holes. I’d love to get another set of towels that last for another 20 years,

  81. I love how industrious you are in your design and build goals ( especially considering you have a baby). Your mix of traditional and modern are goals ( I’m attempting a complete redesign of my 1920’s courtyard building condo in Riverside). The design process has been great fun, much of that is in the puzzling all my wish list into 650 square feet while maintaining both small bedrooms. I’m heartened to have found fellow Chicagoland design freaks adept at mixing styles into a coherent whole. Thanks for your fine efforts in documenting your design accomplishments on utube and instagram. (I just began reading your blog today). and also thanks for turning me onto Daniel Kanter—he’s a trip! Now on to the Company Store to score a pair of warm house slippers for winter.

  82. I didn’t even know these existed…What?!? I would love a new set of bath sheets in gray. After seven years, our towels are looking a little tired these days!

  83. I loove having all white towels, feels so luxurious and clean! I need the quick drying ones for my hubby who leaves damp towels everywhere ?

  84. Top of my list at the company store is the LaCrosse® Down & LoftAIRE Dual Comforter. Love so many things there!

  85. oh man, we really need new towels, and the quick-dry sounds perfect!!

  86. Those bamboo towels look soooo soft! And love the Lucy cameo…are her eyes (staying) blue??!

  87. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect white bath towel and plush throw blanket, so you can only guess what kind of rabbit hole I’ve fallen into…

  88. I’ve been eyeing some small chests to use as night stands, and also need some fresh new bedding!

  89. Love the bathroom re-do! Don’t know if I could get away with using those luxurious white towels in my house though… One thing I have been wanting to get for my dog is the Paint Box Round Dog Bed, she currently sleeps on my bed and I would love to give her her own spot in my room.

  90. The LaCrosse® Down & LoftAIRE Down Alternative Comforter/Sham is at the top of my list!

  91. Oh man – with a whole new house of room that need upgraded and organized, we could go crazy at this store!

  92. I love redoing bathrooms— but they are always last on the list. Womp womp

  93. I could definitely use a refresh for my one and only bath! I’ve been rotating between the same two sets of towels for over 5 years. Love the rug you picked out. That pic of Scott with a towel wrapped Lucy is beyond adorable!

  94. This bathroom is one of my favorites. The skinny closet and the tile layout… I just love your style and attention to detail so much!

  95. Seriously excited to try some quick-dry towels. That would be a game changer. Although then we might not need to install an electric towel warmer which sounds heavenly… ;)

  96. A new down comforter–we got one that is too warm and I melt under it but without I’m freezing!

  97. We could use several new sets of towels as our West Elm ones are starting to show their age! We live in a somewhat humid climate, so the quick-dry towels you featured would be ideal for us.

  98. The snowberry flannel bedding at The Company Store is the top of my list for winter essentials!

  99. I still love this bathroom – it’s the perfect mix of staying true to the home’s roots and new and fresh! Just curious, are you guys making any plans to update the bathroom on the first floor? Our master bath is the same ridiculously tiny size, and I can’t wait to see how you guys make it work!

    1. We can’t decide if we want to do that bathroom or the Tree House bathroom first! I think we’re paralyzed in fear between starting either one, haha.
