The first year we lived in our home, we hosted Thanksgiving, and it was one of our most memorable holidays to date, bringing us a good laugh every time we think about it. We had just finished the drywall repair throughout the entire first floor, not a single wall had been painted (patchy pumpkin walls as far as the eye could see!), our furnace was on the fritz, and we were without water for half the day (due to a morning plumbing fiasco). At the time, it felt disastrous (although looking back, the comedy of errors was more hilarious than anything), but by the end of the day, having all of our friends dining around a freshly DIY-ed table in our new home made our hearts sing. We’ll never forget it.

Since then, our in-town ‘family‘ has grown, and the hosting duty was passed along to our friend with a large studio space. A few weeks ago, she sent out the annual Friendsgiving email, asking for that final headcount of who’s in (us!) and who’s out (no one; all of us are always in!) for a big, lounge-y, lazy Thanksgiving meal. It reminded us that the holidays are officially upon us (hooray, I live for this!), and it also gave us a good little kick to complete a handful of loose patio projects before the weather turns to snow.

All this to say, when BEHR Paint® reached out and asked us to take part in their holiday #BEHRBox challenge, we couldn’t agree fast enough. As a part of the challenge, they sent us a mystery box, and using at least 3 items from the box, we’ll need to create a last minute DIY project to prepare our home before guests arrive – and we’ll have one week to do it. Although we won’t be hosting Thanksgiving Day, we have been hosting a rotating crew of friends and family, and the guest room calendar fills up quickly at this time of year! The #BEHRBox was mailed to us last week, and we filmed our reaction to the reveal of what was inside:

BEHR Paint® just announced their Color Currents 2017, a palette of 20 limited edition new colors. Our box contained colors from the Composed Palette (our favorite of the 3!), including Silent Sands, Wanderlust and Shades On. Also included? Brushes, blue tape, sandpaper and a crafting sponge. (Pssst – Jack has always been our curious buddy, but did anyone spot the CC?)

Flipping through the Color Current swatch book has us debating this color versus that (depending on the type of projects floating around our noodles), although you know our favorites are any variation of their gray, blush and navy hues. Everything’s Rosy, Shades On and In the Woods could all blend seamlessly right into our home! Be sure to check out all of their limited edition colors – they’re good (and available for mixing at your Home Depot!).

Next week, we’ll share our TBD project as a part of the #BEHRBox Challenge, and while we hunker down and hash out those details, BEHR® wants to help you with your last minute holiday to-dos, too. So together with BEHR®, we’ll be giving away a $100 Home Depot® gift card to get started on those projects of your own! Using the Rafflecopter widget below, enter as many ways as you’d like. This giveaway is eligible for those in the United States and runs through Friday, October 28th until 5pm CST. The winner will be announced within this post and contacted directly. Good luck and happy entering!

  2. Excited to see what you do! I’m liking the polished square and shades on #behrbox

  3. I might need to think of something to use the Jade Dragon on. Maybe Artful Magenta as well. #behrbox

  4. I’m liking silent sands. We are moving in a month so lots of painting is in our future #BEHRbox

  5. I love the confident palette, especially “Hot and Spicy”! #BEHRbox

  6. This is so fun! Great job by the BEHR team #BEHRBox. My favorite is Shades On, but I also raelly love the Artful Magenta, Hot and Spicy and laid back gray. And Wanderlust, and in the woods… and midnight show… ok I like a lot of them…

  7. OoooOOoo! Should I keep my downstairs hallway moody with Wonderlust or go ultra fem with Everything’s Rosy?! Tough choices. #BEHRbox

  8. Love the bold color of Wanderlust!! And, I am drawn to Artful Magenta — May need to pick some up to do an accent wall or the inside of the closet in my daughter’s room. #BEHRbox

  9. Definitely a fan of the Composed palette. #BEHRBox

P.S. Loved the video! It put a smile on my face before 7 am, which is no small accomplishment. More, please!

  10. In the Woods would look great in our newly wallpaper-free guest room! #BEHRbox

  11. I love the #BehrBox Comfortable Pallette. The colors are still invigorating but light enough that they would brighten some of the rooms in my home that dont get much natural sunlight. I espeically love Peek a blue and lifes a peach!

  12. Shades On would be gorgeous in my bedroom, and Close Knit and Midnight Show are also beautiful. I love the entire palette! #BEHRBOX

  13. Looks like there may be a word missing in the first sentence. Probably “Thanksgiving”?

  14. We’re gearing up to complete a few DIY projects at home before the holidays, and the Wanderlust color included in the #BEHRBox would be the perfect choice for our bar! Can’t wait to see what y’all create!

  15. I love the Composed pallette.Wanderlust is calling to me! #BEHRBOX

  16. In love with Comfortable Palette! So warm and inviting! #BEHRBox

Always looking forward to what else you two will do next in your home <3

  17. Gorgeous colors–I love shades on and wanderlust. Excited to see what you guys do! #BEHRbox

  18. So excited to see what you guys come up with project wise using your #BEHRBox. This time of year always makes me want to get my house projects finished also. Having Home Depot install insulation next week since our old house had barely any in the attic! That gift card would definitely be put to good use!

The Composed Color palette is speaking to me the most since autumn and winter are all about those deeper cozier colors.

  19. I’m thinking the Hot & Spicy might work for my guest bed. I’ve been looking for a warmer tone for that space. Excited to see what you guys come up with for the project! #BEHRbox

Also, I think I saw a CC shaped lump in the sunbeam. Never would have guessed! :)

  20. Very cute stuff! Love it!

The Rafflecopter widget isn’t working on my computer, but hopefully I can get it to work. Usually leaving a comment is one way to enter, so I figured I’d get on that!

We need to paint some night stands I bought off of CL. I think Shades On would be a perfect color, especially since we’re putting them in a room that is primarily grey with accents of neon green (it works. seriously.).

    1. Thanks for the heads up, should be working now! Make sure to go through the Rafflecopter and confirm that you’ve entered. :)

Also, I NEED to see this grey/green room!

      1. I will take a photo of it and tag you on IG (@interrobanged). It’s really fun, probably my favorite room in the house!

  21. Getting the fall itch to paint some rooms! Love the new colors. #BEHRBox

  22. Ooh, the Composed palette is great, but I also love Midnight Show in the Confident palette. Can’t wait to see what y’all do with your #BEHRBox!

  23. My husband and I just bought a house and are painting nearly every room. The close knit color would look great in our master bath! #BEHRbox

  24. #BEHRBox I could use that gift card to give my front entry a facelift with new paint on the door and a keyless entry.

  25. I would use Laid Back on my walls in the living room. I’ve been wanting to lighten up with a soft gray in that room for awhile now! #BEHRbox

  26. I really love that compose palate, especially the magenta color. It’s hard/brave to use that as an all-over color, but there is a recessed nook in my office that might take it very well… I’m gonna go check out HD this weekend and sample the color.

  27. My guest bathroom could use some Comfortable Palette paint love before the holidays! #BEHRBox

  28. Have been crushing on blush tones of late and Silent Sands is lovely. Can’t wait to see how unconventional ‘holiday’ colors will be used! #BEHRBox

  29. Those colors are perfection! I can’t wait until our house is ready for paint! #BERHBox

  30. My next project before the holidays is refurbishing some bentwood chairs! #BEHRBox

  31. I’m totally digging Close knit and midnight show! Cant wait to see your reveal!

  32. My wife and I only use BEHR paints. We typically get Benjamin Moore colors matched. I think there is definitely some need to use Close Knit, Jade Dragon and Laid Back Gray into some of our upcoming DIY projects! #BEHRBox

  33. #Behrbox! I love the composed pallet, bright and fun, but not TOOOO bright an fun you know?

  34. We just moved into our first house (eek!) and are slammed with trying to finish up projects. I have a practical question for you: do you like BEHR paint when compared to other major brands? (I realize this is a sponsored post but I’ve been following your blog for forever and trust your opinion!) We’ve had the best luck with Pittsburgh Paint Paramount and hated Valspar. #BEHRBOX

    1. Hi, Emmy! BEHR is for sure one of our favorite brands to use! We used BEHR (Pale Bud) in our entire studio, and every last bit of trim molding and all of our interior doors are painted using Ultra Pure White (untinted off the shelf!) in semi-gloss BEHR Marquee. We have a gallon of it in our workshop at all times for new projects and to touch up any scuffs over the years. :D

  35. Behr has ALWAYS been our go-to paint. I’ve never been disappointed! Loving all these new colors. Go #BEHRBox

  36. I’m really feeling the Composed Palette –maybe with a few of the more muted Confident Palette colors for painting accent furniture #BEHRBox

  37. Oh wanderlust is pretty much what we’ve got going on in my living room. Love it. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with

  38. I would use Everything’s Rosy or Lifes a Peach in our daughters room… so comfortable palette for sure! #BEHRBox

  39. #BEHRBox !!!!!!
I’m all about that comfortable palette. I mean, GREY for life.

  40. Oooh, Wanderlust reminds me of Hague Blue (which I totally used your front door as inspiration for my front door)! So pretty. #BEHRBox

  41. That grey is gorgeous! But mostly I found it hilarious that they tied two wooden crates together and stuffed it with paper…for a tiny shoe box. #BEHRBox

  42. Yes please! Wanderlust would look incredible in my guest bedroom! #BEHRBox

  43. I can’t wait to see what you two come up with. Don’t forget, the crates are fair game too. ;) thanks for the chance! #BEHRBOX

  44. Can’t wait to see your finished project! Also, Friendsgiving is the best :)

  45. I love that grey, right before the black, in the fan deck! I’m forever on the hunt, and never pulling the trigger, on the perfect neutral grey. #BEHRBox

  46. I love the Comfortable Palette #BEHRBox! I already have accessories for blue and yellow, this gives me more ideas of what to add! The Peek a Blue is so pretty!

  47. Can’t wait to see what project y’all come up with! I’m hoping the grey color paint makes the cut. :)

  48. Wanderlust! That color is and always will be my jam. Approximately 25% of my wardrobe is right around there.

  49. I’m excited to see what you come up with! I also love the cameos of Jack and CC in your blog posts :)

  50. #BEHRbox – Those colors are great. Very excited to see what you make!

  51. We’re using this Colorado Indian summer to do some painting we’ve had planed since we bought the house 2 years ago, also dig that grey and teal, you know Hailey loves teal

  52. Just took a look at the colors and wow, it’s uncanny how the Composed Palette closely mirrors the wall colors in my home- four of them closely resemble paint I’ve used. I’ve been looking for a nice wine color for our foyer as well, looks like Artful Magenta could be a good option there, thanks for sharing!

  53. It’s like the DIY version of Chopped, I love it! And can’t wait to see you what you guys come up with. $100 to Home Depot would definitely come in handy in our near future! :)

    1. Oops, the #BEHRbox is a lot like the DIY version of Chopped … should’ve fully read the directions first, haha.

  54. I need to repraint a couple of rooms in our house. I will be looking at their colors to choose from. Thanks

  55. We hosting Christmas in our “new” home. We have a million projects to do including refinishing the original floors from 1951 and repainting every inch. We’re hoping that with great food and A LOT of wine the family won’t notice all of the rough spots! #BEHRbox

  56. I’m in love with the Comfortable Palette, that Peek-A-Blue is gorgeous. #BEHRBox

  57. I love the wanderlust color for a bold project! Excited to see what you come up with! #behrbox

  58. Ah, I love these colors! I just started painting some dressers a deep olive green but nowwww I wanna try and talk my husband into a blush for the dressers. Not sure if he’d agree to it since we just painted our front door pepto bismol pink :)

  59. This is an exciting challenge. Not sure what I would DIY with that but love the colours.

  60. This is cool, I can’t wait to see what you’ll do. Are the crates a part of the challenge?

    1. They can be, but they don’t have to be! We considered using the crates, but we nixed that for another idea. We’ll likely pass the crates along to a friend. :)

  61. #BEHRBox looks like a fun challenge! Can’t wait to see what y’all do!

  62. Can’t wait to see what you do with this! And I totally watched the video twice to play “spot the CC” since I didn’t catch her cameo the first time. She’s. So. Cute.

  63. Can’t wait to see what you do with your #BEHRBox!

All of the palettes are lovely but the Comfortable Palette would work best in my home.

  64. Loving that composed palette + everything’s rosy! I might need to paint something pink soon… #BEHRBox

  65. tough call between the comfortable and composed palettes. i would say the composed wins out by a hair. #BEHRbox

  66. I’m still in the process of painting our new house and the master suite is next. We’re painting the walls a medium grey with one dark blue accent wall, but I really want to make our closet a bit girly and artful magenta & everything’s rosy fit the bill perfectly! #BEHRBox

  67. Loving all those colors and curious to see what you do with the #BEHRBox.

  68. I love the box your supplies came in! For our house, the Confident color current would fit best. #BEHRBox

  69. #BEHRBox – I definitely love the composed pallet. Especially those dark and moody greens.

    1. We were hoping to stain and paint the patio stairs, but we’ve been out of town every nice weekend! We’re running out of time…

The #BEHRBox isn’t available to buy (it’s just a part of the challenge), but a care package with these or similar supplies WOULD make a great gift!

  70. My favorite colors for my home are semi-precious, agave plant and cappuccino froth.

  71. I love these colors. We have a room in our basement is needing a fresh coat of paint and I think these are the perfect inspiration.

  72. I like the confident nature palette with silent sand and gold hearted.

  73. thanks for the great give-away. i love behr paint; aged beige is one of my favorite neutrals. #BehrBox

  74. The thought of limited edition colors is both exciting and nerve wracking. I love the idea of something available for just a short time but what happens if I love it and can’t get it again a few years from now?! Ahh!

  75. I’d choose the Composed Palette because I love Artful Magenta! #BEHRBox

  76. So fun! I was thinking the items in the box would be more specific, so it’s fun that they are so versatile. That would leave it too open for me to decide, but I’m sure y’all will be great!

    1. Right?! We were so nervous the box might’ve had styrofoam balls or other crafty odds ‘n ends – thank goodness! So much possibility, and not much time to figure it out…

  77. I tend toward the Composed colors, but would definitely like some of the Confident Palette for my boys’ room. #BEHRBox

  78. Love Wanderlust and Artful Magenta–perfect for a dining room or den area! The whole Composed Palette is gorgeous! #BEHRbox

  79. My favorite #BehrBox color is the midnight blue. We used a similar shade inour kitchen over the summer.

  80. It looks fun! Maybe a tinge of brass or gold? #festive #warm #BEHRBox

Also, I love the Composed palette. I have a color similar to Wanderlust in our bathroom. It’s gorgeous!

  81. I’m looking for a color change. Maybe this will get me started.

  82. wow–lots of comments! Your blog is the best! it is the go-to site when I have a project to start, or finish! in my own old house. Thanks for your very careful explanations! I got my shower area tiled with your help (and my brother’s who drove out from CO to give me a hand)! this #BEHRBox contest will certainly bring you lots more comments!

  83. Your blog never fails to bring a smile to my face. I love all your ideas – I hope to be able to do similar things in my future home :)

    1. I almost forgot! We have our own CC that I’m sure will be gracing all photos in the future. Minus any with powertools or vacuums, then he’s out of that room like a shot.

      #BEHRBox

  84. I can’t wait to see your guys project.
I’m getting ready to paint my lower kitchen cabinets and in the woods or wanderlust from the composed palette would be
nice. Although if I could get my husband on board I think life is a peach could be pretty great. #BEHRBox

  85. The blush pink would be perfect for my daughter’s nursery!
    #BEHRBox

  86. Man, this #behrbox looks like so much fun! Can’t wait to see your finished project!!

  87. #BEHRBox I would love to use the Confident Palette. Thanks for the amazing giveaway :)

  88. I love the #BehrBox… can’t wait to refresh a room in my house.

  89. Laid Back Grey would be perfect in my bedroom, my next planned painting project. #BEHRBox

  90. I love the subtle tones of the composed palette. Wanderlust might be my fave. #BEHRBox

  91. I love wanderlust. Paint always makes a house feel like a home. #BEHRBox

  92. Don’t use that “other” companies sanding products. You just let me know what you need and I’ll hook you up with Gator Grit Sandpaper. Sanding in half the time and works great.
