Chalk It Up

A few weeks ago, Scott and I took a little road trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin: home to the Brewers, a gorgeous lakefront, and a pretty sweet art museum.  Our friends and neighbors, Chris and Angela, treated us to a one day whirlwind tour where we ate, drank, and ate some more, and came home pretty darn happy.

One of my personal favorite hot spots of the day was a mini shopping extravaganza through the Historic Third Ward that we fit in between our brunch-time bloody marys and dinner-time pizza pies.  Here we stumbled into Hot Pop, an urban clothing, accessories, and do-dad shop, where you can find anything from an ultra hip pair of new kicks, to a flippin’ sweet guitar-shaped spatula.  No lie.  But perhaps the most intrigueing thing found in the store?  The bathroom walls.

Floor to ceiling chalkboard paint coated every inch, creating a nitty-gritty surrounding with a playful atmosphere.  I have to admit, it was refreshing to see so much love scrawled across those walls.  Mixed in with the unicorn sketches and boombox scribbles were happy shout outs, peace signs, and bubbly hearts.

Of course, this got my mind reeling, and I found myself asking Scott where we could afford our own chunk of wall space for a chalkboard gallery.  As you may remember, our tour guides have their own little chalky strip goin’ on in their pad, so maybe I can be satisfied popping in upstairs and doodling a thing or two on their wall.  Or…maybe I’ll convince Scott we need a wall of our own.
