When I asked Kim, the momma of two bunnies, if I could share Boy and Girl with all you (yup, that’s their now-names), she quickly agreed yes!; they love being the center of attention.
Here’s what she had to say:
I met Peter, a brown and white Dutch, at a shelter. I was quickly in love with this super smart little rabbit who loved to explore and get into all kinds of mischief (I’ve closed him in the fridge more than once because he knows that’s where the veggies are and tends to hop in!), and although he’s a very people-oriented rabbit, I thought he might like a bunny friend […] I set up a “bunny date” at the shelter with another one of their rabbits who caught my attention thanks to her velvety Rex fur and chocolate chip cookie dough color pattern, but it certainly wasn’t instant rabbit love […] It took months for them to become friends.
They’ve since become inseparable, although they’re kind of like a couple with their playful quibbles. You’ll often see one ripping a piece of hay away that the other is munching on (as if there isn’t a giant pile available), and Prada (who I now call Girl Bunny, and I call him Boy Bunny; creative, I know. You can hire me to name your pets, your children, or your iPod. My rates are super reasonable!) loves people so much that she’ll shove him away from any hands reaching down to give attention.
